Every year, the Long Beach Navy Memorial Heritage Association (LBNMHA) hands out awards and grants that aim for one thing: to preserve Long Beach’s rich history.

SAINT-REGIS-CONDOS-FOR-SALEThis year, the LBNMHA handed out $188K to seven local organizations:

  • Rancho Los Alamitos was awarded for their restoration of the kitchen areas, comprised of the butlers’ pantry, kitchen, men’s dining room and the back porch.
  • The California Heights Historic District was given an award in order to complete their multi-year plan to restore and recreate vintage lampposts from the 1920s and 1930s.
  • CSULB’s Advanced Media Production Center was granted money in order create and produce a television documentary about Long Beach’s aviation and Navy/Harbor history.
  • Sustainable Long Beach at the City of Long Beach was provided funds for the research and creation of interpretive signs for visitors to the Willow Springs Park.
  • The Historical Society of Long Beach’s Pearl Harbor exhibit and programming was provided with monies that will be used to help fund the research, cataloging, preservation and exhibition of Long Beach’s connection to the attack on Pearl Harbor on its 75th anniversary.
  • Long Beach Heritage  was awarded for the rehabilitation of the Bembridge House entrance hall, back bathroom pantry, master bedroom and master bath.
  • St. Regis Condominium Association [pictured] was given funds to help their windows project becoming a reality, using a master architectural restoration plan in order to restore the 1922 building’s windows.

The LBNMHA was created in 1998 to “preserve the heritage and historic sites of Long Beach, recognizes the contributions of the Long Beach Naval Station and Shipyard to the City of Long Beach, and honors the work of architect Paul Revere Williams.” It uses a fund created through the Long Beach Community Foundation which manages the money the organization hands out annually.

For organizations interested in applying for the 2015 grants, application materials will be available on August 29.
