A street repavement project will temporarily reduce traffic on West Anaheim Street to one lane in each direction this weekend.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction from the Long Beach (710) Freeway to Ninth Street along West Anaheim Street from 7PM Friday through 5AM Monday, according to a statement from the Port of Long Beach. Access to and from the 710 Freeway at Anaheim will also be closed during that time, and traffic will be detoured to Pacific Coast Highway.

A repavement from the 710 to Ninth Street will also close West Anaheim to cross-traffic at all intersections except Santa Fe Avenue, authorities said. Cross-traffic at Harbor Avenue and Ninth Street will be detoured to Santa Fe.

The closures are part of the West Anaheim Street Improvement Project, which began in September 2013 and is expected to be nearing completion, authorities said. Throughout the project, businesses along West Anaheim are open and operating.

In addition to roadway surfacing, the project also includes improvements for bus stops, the median, sidewalks and access for the disabled, as well as landscaping.
