3:30pm | Vice Mayor and Second District Councilmember Suja Lowenthal kicked off her City Council reelection campaign on Wednesday night at Paradise Restaurant on Broadway. A crowd of both citizens and community leaders to hear Lowenthal’s approach to her reelection. She will be facing off against Mike Kramer and Janet Ballantyne.

Lowenthal was adamant in covering her past achievements, including the identification of new overnight parking spaces in private and public lots for residents, a crackdown on abandoned shopping carts, and improved water quality along the city’s beaches. 

The Suja Lowenthal for City Council campaign reported over $20,000 in contributions thus far with several fundraising events planned in February and March.  

The campaign also announced endorsements from neighborhood and business leaders in the Second District including: John Thomas (President, Bluff Heights Neighborhood Association), Michelle Arend-Ekhoff (President, Craftsman Village Historic District), Sidney Cramer (President, On Broadway Merchants Association), Eric Carr (past President, Promenade Area Residents Association), Michael Vanderbeek (President, Downtown Residential Council), Emily Stevens (President, Rose Park Neighborhood Association), Dave Clements (President, North Alamitos Beach Neighborhood Association), and John Sangmeister (Chair, Downtown Long Beach Associates).
