This Thursday at 1:30pm, the newly formed Older Adult Transportation Task Force will meet at the Alpert Jewish Community Center to address how to best provide seniors with access to reliable transportation, a key factor in empowering seniors to lead vibrant, healthy and independent lives.

The Task Force, made up of senior adult advocates, local public officials, business leaders and non-profit leaders, have already met with representatives from LA County ACCESS, Long Beach Health & Human Services and Long Beach Transit as well as staff members from California Assemblywoman Bonnie Lowenthal’s office, state Senator Alan Lowenthal’s office, the California Department of Motor Vehicles’ Ombudsman for Seniors and other interested volunteers and community members.

“Most of us have never considered what our lives might be like if we were unable to drive because of diminished vision or reflexes”, commented JFCS Geriatric Case Manager, Elaine Porzucki.

Task Force member Diane Johnson, the Director of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program at the Alpert Jewish Community Center, is encouraged by the level of energy and enthusiasm being aimed at the project. “The Task Force hopes to see if, as a community, we can all do a better job for our seniors.”
