Three local men are dead after a Saturday evening accident in which a pickup truck hydroplaned and crashed into a concrete pillar for a 405 Freeway overpass.

Rainy conditions are believed to have spurred the accident, which instantly killed the truck’s driver, 36 year-old Mark Martineau of Seal Beach and 54 year-old passenger Richard McAleavey of Long Beach. A second passenger, 36 year-old Terrence Harris of Long Beach, had to be extracted from the truck and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries Sunday.

Police say the 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 truck was traveling northbound on Redondo Ave. at about 6:22PM Saturday when it attempted to make a lane change. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to the wet roadway, causing the truck to spin onto the sidewalk where it struck the concrete support pillar for the freeway overpass.

Investigators believe the car hydroplaned as a result of “an excessive speed for the rainy conditions.” No other vehicles were involved.
