With this week’s unseasonably warm temperatures giving way to a cloudy weekend and another visit from from an El Niño-driven storm tomorrow, a story has been making the rounds on social media warning of extreme weather and a tornado warning along the Southern California coast, including Long Beach.

But don’t start putting up the storm shutters just yet.

“This type of storm is conducive to a slight chance of weak water spouts,” National Weather Service Meteorologist Robbie Munroe told the Post. Those water spouts can sometime make landfall, said Munroe, in which case they’re re-classified as weak tornadoes.

He emphasized that the chances of that happening, however, are exceedingly slim.

Long Beach can expect about one to two inches of rain tomorrow, high winds and about a 20% chance of thunder in the afternoon and into the evening. In the mean time, high surf advisories along the coast and flood warnings are in effect.
