A man was fatally struck by a vehicle as he crossed the street at an unmarked crosswalk in East Long Beach Saturday evening, according to Long Beach police.

Officers arrived on scene at around 5:30 p.m. and found that the pedestrian was struck by a 2019 Kia heading eastbound on Pacific Coast Highway at the intersection with Park Avenue, which is near the Traffic Circle, police said. The Long Beach Fire Department arrived on scene to treat the pedestrian, but he ultimately died from his injuries, police said.

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has not yet released the identity of the pedestrian as they are still working to notify his next of kin first, a coroner’s official said.

The 66-year-old driver who struck the pedestrian remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. Neither distracted nor impaired driving were a factor in this collision, they said.
