Firefighters quickly doused a small blaze that started in an alleyway and charred an apartment building in the Wrigley area Wednesday afternoon.

Crews got a call about the fire around 1:10 p.m. and headed to the alley between Chestnut and Cedar avenues just north of 23rd Street, Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Brian Fisk said.

The blaze was burning in some rubbish, likely a mattress, and was spreading to a nearby apartment building, according to the LBFD.

Crews doused the blaze within 10 minutes, before it could do much damage, according to Fisk.

Nobody was hurt. The cause of the blaze wasn’t immediately clear.
