Two male juvenile passengers were hospitalized and are currently in critical condition after a crash on Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) early Monday morning, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) reported. One of the drivers in the incident was detained on suspicion of DUI, before being hospitalized himself. The incident is being investigated as potentially DUI-related.

According to a report issued by the LBPD Monday afternoon, officers were dispatched at 12:16AM to PCH and Cherry Avenue regarding a collision between two vehicles. Upon arriving, they found the two male juveniles, passengers of one of the cars, critically injured.

The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) promptly transported the two juveniles to a local hospital. They are currently located there, listed in critical condition.

The LBPD’s initial investigation found a 1998 Nissan Quest driven by 63-year-old Long Beach resident Theodore Sims, carrying the two juveniles, was traveling eastbound on the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) at Gardenia Avenue, when he tried to turn left into a parking lot. Simultaneously, a 2014 Honda Odyssey van driven by Jean Bidondoyore, 18, of Rancho Palos Verdes Estates, was traveling westbound on PCH from Cherry Avenue. The Odyssey collided with the Nissan Quest as Sims turned left.

Sims was detained on suspicion of DUI but, having suffered injuries as well, was submitted to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
