1:23pm | Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal is teaming up with the Rose Park Neighborhood Association on Saturday to plant trees throughout the second district neighborhood and is seeking a few helping hands.

The vice mayor has partnered with various neighborhood and business associations over the last month to plant more than 50 trees in the Second District.

Volunteers from the residential, business and educational communities are actively being sought to participate in the community tree planting. Anyone interested in pitching in this Saturday is reminded to dress appropriately and wear comfortable shoes.

Volunteers should meet in the parking lot of Big Lots, 2300 E. Seventh St. at Junipero Avenue, at 9 a.m. They are also asked to contact Mark Magdaleno at 562-570-6684 to RSVP.

Grant funding from the Southern California Air Quality Management District is being used to purchase the trees, which will number about 30. Additional support is being provided by the city’s Office of Sustainability, Public Works Department and Neighborhood Improvement Division, according to information provided by Lowenthal’s district office.
