Nearly 2,500 Long Beach residents are expected to take part in the second annual Citywide Breakfast this Saturday, an event meant to allow people to host their neighbors in an effort to strengthen communities one block at a time.

Organized by local nonprofit We Love Long Beach, the event is scheduled to take place from 9:00AM to 11:00AM on Saturday, February 20 in 45 different neighborhoods across the city.

“The simple act of getting to know your neighbors has the capacity to make Long Beach safer, healthier, and a more enriching place to live,” said Scott Jones, We Love Long Beach executive director and co-founder. “Where many neighbors are experiencing loneliness and disconnection, a breakfast is a perfect excuse to get to know those who live around, and rebuild bonds of trust and belonging.”

This is the first time that location in all nine city council district will participate, according to organizers. Neighbors will be encouraged to use the hashtag #BreakfastLB on social media.

The event is funded through a $30,000 award from The Knight Foundation Grant to expand and improve these citywide events. This is the fifth citywide celebration put on by the organization in the last year. Other events have included an Ice Cream Social and Pumpkin Carving and Chili Party.
