11:35am | A city block in a West Long Beach neighborhood was shut down for about five hours Tuesday as Los Angeles Police Department investigators zeroed in on a man wanted in relation to an armed robbery, police said.

Homes located along Pacific Avenue between 21st and Hill streets were evacuated and the entire block shut off to through traffic for roughly five hours beginning just before noon Tuesday as LAPD officers prepared to serve an arrest warrant at a residence in the 2100 block of Pacific, according to information provided by an LAPD spokesman.

LAPD Lt. Andy Nieman said that LAPD officers served the warrant a bit after noon at the home of a Long Beach man who is believed to have been involved in a Los Angeles robbery. The officers, with the department’s South Bureau’s Specialized Investigative Unit, were dressed for a raid and armed with rifles because investigators believed the suspect had evidence, including weapons, at his home, he said.

Long Beach police assisted in the evacuation of homes and businesses located near the suspect’s residence, an LBPD spokeswoman said.

The suspect had been taken into custody without incident by about 5 p.m., police said.
