UPDATE | A woman fatally struck by a vehicle in Long Beach Tuesday night attempted to cross a street near Polytechnic High School outside of any crosswalk, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials said Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, identified only as a 62-year-old Long Beach resident, was crossing southbound on Pacific Coast Highway, east of Lemon Avenue, outside of any crosswalk when she was struck by a 2002 Hyundai Sonata traveling eastbound on PCH and driven by a 36-year-old Long Beach resident, according to authorities. 

Arriving officers—who were dispatched at 9:02PM on Tuesday, June 23—provided first aid to the woman, who sustained major injuries, until paramedics arrived and transported her to a local hospital. She died from her injuries about three hours after the collision. 

The driver remained at the scene, was interviewed and later released. 

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

06/24/15 09:57AM | A woman was fatally struck in Long Beach Tuesday night when she attempted to cross a street near Polytechnic High School, Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officials said.

Authorities said at about 9:00PM a 60-year-old woman was struck near Pacific Coast Highway and Lemon Avenue.

She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
