A woman died in a hit-and-run collision early Tuesday morning near the Long Beach Airport, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced today.

According to LBPD spokeswoman Marlene Arrona, officers were dispatched to the area of Temple Avenue and Spring Street to assist Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) personnel with a woman lying on the street with major head trauma.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to Arrona.

Upon investigation, detectives found the woman’s condition was the result of a hit-and-run collision, in which a vehicle hit the woman.

Witness statements and video surveillance revealed that the vehicle struck the woman in the roadway. Officers who watched the video determined the car was a white, newer model Mercedes Benz with tinted windows and a sunroof, with a driver that witnesses described as black, in his 20s or 30s, wearing a red baseball cap.

The roads were immediately closed, but later reopened at 10:30AM.

Any witnesses who may have information are urged to call Detective Brian Watt at (562) 570-5520.
