Democrat Rod Wright has defeated Republican Lydia Gutierrez to earn a seat in the State Senate’s 25th District.  An Inglewood resident, Wright served in the State Assembly from 1996-2002.  The district contains Palos Verdes, Inglewood, Compton, and some northern sections of Long Beach.

Wright touted his Sacramento experience and stressed education reform during his campaign.  All eight mayors of cities in the 25th District endorsed Wright for re-election.  Gutierrez, a former teacher, vowed to cut spending and counted endorsements from Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and LBUSD board member John Meyer.
