Goodbye Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool. You have served us all too well. Goodbye to the pool where many a child has learned to swim, where countless Long Beach Junior Lifeguards have taken the high-dive plummet, where water polo, diving and swimming competitions have introduced our city to world class, international athletes. Goodbye to the pool that created such athletes.
Goodbye to the sound of butterfly strokes echoing throughout the structure, goodbye to the pitter-patter of wet feet and slippery flip flops walking about. Goodbye to the murals, the memories, and that familiar smell of chlorine. Goodbye dear pool, your 40-year history will certainly be remembered.
Councilmember Susie Price is inviting the public to the closing ceremony for the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool on Sunday, October 26 from 1:00PM to 2:30PM. Bring memories, photos, trophies, medals and other memorabilia to share, and spend the afternoon paying tribute to this icon of the Long Beach Shoreline, sharing stories, taking pictures from inside the lifeguard office and indulging in light refreshments.
The Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool is located at 4000 E. Olympic Plaza. For more information, call (562) 570-3150.
