Those of you environmentally-minded innovators who have ideas burning through your pockets and collecting dust in the back of your mind, now is one of those opportunities to share your genius for a worthy cause.

KFAs a facet of the Green Long Beach! November meeting, held at Rebel Bite at 6:30PM, the organization will be conducting a brainstorming session to cultivate ideas for the Knight Cities Challenge, where your ideas—condensed to 150 words or less—could become a reality.

The Knight Cities Challenge rewards new ideas from innovators who hold the future of their city in their hands. Between October 1 and November 14, applicants are invited from anywhere to send in their ideas for improving the 26 Knight communities, meaning locations where the Knight brothers once owned newspapers. Long Beach, fortunately, is one of these communities. Winners are awarded from a pool of $5 million in the form of a grant.

Green Long Beach! will organize the charrette by encouraging meeting attendees to come up with a large number of ideas in a 20 to 30 minute time slot. Then a brief discussion between attendees will decide which ideas are the strongest to submit. The challenge will be approached from a perspective of sustainability and the environment, while staying focused on Long Beach as a whole. Topics may include but are not limited to water, transportation and fracking.
