Downtown Long Beach’s Shoreline Square Tower, home to Comerica bank and UBS Financial Services, received the first LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certification for a multi-tenant office building in Long Beach, according to the building’s owners.
In a statement issued last week, the real estate investment and operating firm Parallel Capital Partners, Inc. announced its LEED Gold status under the Existing Buildings Operations + Maintenance (EBO+M) Rating system.
“Shoreline has a 91 Energy Star score, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures that use 29 percent less water compared to the LEED baseline, an advanced green cleaning program that promotes healthy indoor air quality and a comprehensive recycling and composting program—all of which reduce operating costs and boost sustainability,” said Parallel Capital Partners CEO Matt Root in a statement.
According to the statement, LEED is recognized nationally as a benchmark in environmentally-friendly construction and design by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The 20-story Shoreline Square was granted LEED Gold status by USGBC at the end of May for its adapted lighting conservations programs, its 100 percent diversion of e-waste and its use of low nitrogen fertilizers for landscaping.
“Shoreline Square’s newly granted LEED Gold certification demonstrates tremendous green building leadership,” said USGBC CEO and Founding Chair Fedrizzi. “The project efficiently uses our natural resources and makes an immediate, positive impact on our planet, which will benefit future generations to come.”
Parts of the city have increasingly become LEED certified of late. In 2012, the Post reported that CSULB’s first LEED Gold certified building opened on campus, the form of the student recreation center. Since then, Fire Station 12 and portions of the airport have become LEED certified.
