While the Chargers’ move from San Diego to Los Angeles has been nothing short of a fiasco, one North Long Beach bar owner knows there are still die-hard fans in the area looking for a local dive to call home.
Muldoon’s Saloon, which was recently named one of 15 ‘essential Long Beach dive bars’ by LongBeachize, is looking to establish itself as a Chargers bar in part because owner Patrick Conlon is himself a fan, but also because he regularly sees Chargers fans in the area but noticed that none of them seem to know each other.
“I would ask them where they would go see a Chargers game and they would tell me a spot that was a bonafide 49ers, Raiders, Packers bar,” Conlon told the Post in an email. “Great places to go but not for Chargers fans. [Chargers president and CEO] Spanos’ move up here was so random and last minute that it was obvious to me why there wasn't any organization up here. Fans need the team to adjust and organize.”
Since creating a “Long Beach Area Chargers Fans” Facebook group one week ago, Conlon said nearly 150 members have joined, further validating his theory that there is a fan base waiting to be brought together in the area.
To celebrate, Conlon will be offering a 10 percent general discount and $3.50 pints for all of the bar’s import and craft beers for fans showing up in Chargers gear.
Muldoon’s currently has a 12-foot-by-6-foot projector screen with surround sound and 17 big screen TVs with the full NFL package, according to Conlon.
The next Chargers game will take place at 1:00PM this Sunday, October 15 when they play their longtime rivals the Oakland (soon-to-be Las Vegas) Raiders.
Muldoon’s will also host a Sonic BBQ truck serving up barbecue and free soda or dessert for every purchase—if you have Chargers gear on.
Muldoon’s Saloon is located at 5646 North Paramount Boulevard. For more information click here.
