Long Beach State Athletics announced Monday a new partnership with Ballast Point and Legends to create a Courtside Sand Bar within the Walter Pyramid, following the announcement earlier this month that a 12-year CSU ban prohibiting the sale of alcohol at on-campus sporting events was overturned.
When Executive Order 966 was enacted in 2005, CSU was following “a recent national trend to address the illegal use and abuse of alcohol at intercollegiate athletic events that has led to incidents of poor sportsmanship, disorderly conduct, and a negative game atmosphere for fans.”
Set to be a “novel VIP experience” with exclusive food and beverage options, the bar will be located on the baseline underneath the scoreboard and be available during all men’s basketball games and during other selected events at the multi-purpose arena.
“We are excited to provide this unique in-game experience,” Athletics Director Andy Fee said in a statement. “We’re striving to enhance our fan experience and this is a big step in that direction. Our goal is to deliver the best atmosphere possible, and we have heard fans asking for this type of access and premium seating opportunity.”
So who has access? Admission is free to Beach Athletic Club members (who have season tickets) within the Director’s Circle level of giving $5,000 or more annually. The bar will also add 16 new season tickets, with seats and tables to be located at the front of the closed-off area along the baseline. Purchased access into the Courtside Sand Bar outside of Beach Athletic Club membership is only available through group sales, according to LBS Athletics.
