Mike Guardabascio and JJ Fiddler— known to the world as “Mike and JJ” are best friends, business partners and Long Beach sports experts. They met each other at age 19 at Long Beach State on the Union Weekly student newspaper: Mike as the Managing Editor and JJ started the paper’s first sports section. JJ is actually the one who convinced Mike to start covering sports after pointing out the community was being underserved. Now the city can’t see local sports without these two— so much so that they now run the562.org, a community funded nonprofit media outlet that covers sports and education. Both award-winning writers, their work has been published in numerous Southern California publications.
