6:00am | Here are the quick scores from around the Moore League as Week 2 of the high school football season comes to a close.

After extremely lofty preseason expectations, Long Beach Poly lost to St. Bonaventure for the second consecutive year in a runaway 32-7 contest that wasn’t as close as the score indicates. Although Poly ran the ball well and simultaneously stopped the Bonny run attack, the Jackrabbits could neither pass nor defend the pass. Poly head coach Raul Lara told his team that he still believes they can win the Moore League and the C.I.F. Title, but told reporters after the game, “We’ll have to reevaluate and make changes.” The big question remains, Is Poly vulnerable in the Moore League again this season?

Sit tight. We’ll have video highlights posted for you soon.

As one program faltered, another tasted sweet success as Cabrillo High School won its first football game since 2007 with a 24-6 victory over Lynwood. The win is the first for third-year coach A.J. Luke, who told the lbpost.com in August that he believes the team can gain momentum once that first win is out of their systems.

Lakewood will become the highest ranked Moore League team in the next few days after they defeated St. John Bosco by a 27-7 score. The Lancers, at No. 4, were ranked just one spot behind Long Beach Poly in the PAC-5 Divison but that will surely change with the Jackrabbits’ loss on Friday night. Enjoy these photos (at right and below) from Jim Cayer.

Elsewhere, the Compton Tarbabes will continue to move up the ranks with a 27-14 win over Compton Centennial while Millikan put a hurtin’ on Artesia with a 46-7 romp. The Wilson Bruins were the only Moore League team besides Poly team to fall this week with a 48-7 loss to powerhouse Edison. The Jordan Panthers were off this week but will jump back into the fold with a tough matchup at Warren next week.

Here are your current standings:
