Long Beach State’s water polo head coach Gavin Arroyo joins the USA men’s water polo team in Belgrade, Serbia for the next two weeks as Arroyo works as an assistant coach for the World University Games, running from June 30 through July 12.

The men’s team starts play today, and competition continues through July 12, when the medal rounds will be played, including the gold-medal game and medal ceremony.

Arroyo joins Kirk Everist for the coaching staff, the long-time head coach for Cal who was chosen to lead the team in March. The team consists of 13 players with 11 playing in the field and two goalies.

The Americans start out in pool play, participating in Group D along with Hungary, Japan and Poland.
