Runners who were hoping for some relief this year will find slightly better temperatures after 2015\u2019s record 95 degrees on race day, but not by much.<\/p>\n

In fact, Sunday\u2019s temps for the 25,000 or so runners expected to pour into Long Beach will be a nice, hot 88 degrees.<\/p>\n

Last year, a few cooling fans were located along the route, little could be done to effectively mitigate the heat for both marathon and half marathon runners. Sometimes, you just have to keep shuffling it out.<\/p>\n

\u201cFive or six years ago, we had an 85 degree day and we didn\u2019t have any issues,\u201d said Bob Seagren, CEO of Run Racing, the company that runs the Long Beach Marathon and Half Marathon in an interview last year. \u201cWe\u2019re just taking extra precautions.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the mostly flat course\u2014a favorite for Boston qualifiers\u2014does attract a bit of a sea breeze throughout its oceanfront route, making for some relief from the heat.<\/p>\n

Other features of this year\u2019s race include the usual health and fitness expo, a finish line with snacks, coconut water and water and a \u201cShock Top Beach Bum Club\u201d beer garden.<\/p>\n
