{"id":1726,"date":"2010-03-21T05:06:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-21T05:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lbpost.com\/articles\/sports\/baseball-perfect-10-for-lakewood\/"},"modified":"2010-03-21T05:06:00","modified_gmt":"2010-03-21T05:06:00","slug":"baseball-perfect-10-for-lakewood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/sports\/baseball-perfect-10-for-lakewood","title":{"rendered":"Baseball: Perfect 10 For Lakewood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment-->  <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Lancers will head into league play with a perfect record for the first time since 1990, thanks to an 18-14 win over Downey, which puts the Lancers at 10-0.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The win came on the road at Downey in the first game of the Redondo Tournament.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>&#8220;We pitched all our young guys today,&#8221; said Lakewood coach Spud O&#8217;Neil after the game.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>&#8220;They&#8217;d been doing pretty good, up until today.&#8221;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>O&#8217;Neil was pleased with his team&#8217;s fantastic offensive outing, but saw his Lancers give up 14 runs in one day, when they&#8217;d given up 13 runs in the nine games prior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The scoring started in the first inning, after J. P. Crawford walked, and Tyler Schultz (2-3, 3R) was hit by a pitch.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>After that, Hunter Jones, Jeff Yamaguchi and Tyler Leidholt all knocked in a run on singles.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Then Zach Alofaituli came to the plate with two runners on, and hit an oppo three-run homer, giving Lakewood a 6-0 lead.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Downey knocked in three runs on a homer as well, but Lakewood scored eight runs in the fifth to put it away.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The Lancers were up 18-8 after seven innings, but the Vikings scored six runs in the bottom of the inning, including a grand slam.
