The Lancers will head into league play with a perfect record for the first time since 1990, thanks to an 18-14 win over Downey, which puts the Lancers at 10-0. <\/span>The win came on the road at Downey in the first game of the Redondo Tournament. <\/span>“We pitched all our young guys today,” said Lakewood coach Spud O’Neil after the game. <\/span>“They’d been doing pretty good, up until today.” <\/span>O’Neil was pleased with his team’s fantastic offensive outing, but saw his Lancers give up 14 runs in one day, when they’d given up 13 runs in the nine games prior.<\/p>\n The scoring started in the first inning, after J. P. Crawford walked, and Tyler Schultz (2-3, 3R) was hit by a pitch. <\/span>After that, Hunter Jones, Jeff Yamaguchi and Tyler Leidholt all knocked in a run on singles. <\/span>Then Zach Alofaituli came to the plate with two runners on, and hit an oppo three-run homer, giving Lakewood a 6-0 lead. Downey knocked in three runs on a homer as well, but Lakewood scored eight runs in the fifth to put it away. <\/span>The Lancers were up 18-8 after seven innings, but the Vikings scored six runs in the bottom of the inning, including a grand slam. Nick Sanchez got the win for the Lancers, with four innings pitched and three earned runs allowed, while striking out six Vikings. <\/span>Yamaguchi continued his unbelievable start by going 2-3 with a double, three runs, and 4 RBI. <\/span>Alofaituli was 2-4 with two homers and 6 RBI.
