Long Beach State defeated its second straight ranked opponent, as the No. 53 49ers upset No. 42 Nebraska 5-2 behind a strong singles performance.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Long Beach State started the day in a hole, dropping the doubles point despite taking a match. Deborah Armstrong and Anais Dallara defeated Swarting\/Weinrich in a tiebreaker 8-7, but the 49ers fell at No. 1 and No. 3 to move behind 1-0.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

The 49ers rallied with a big day at singles however, winning the top five matches. Jaklin Alawi picked up her second win over a ranked opponent, defeating #70 Mary Weatherholt in straight sets 7-5, 6-4. Rachel Manasse was the first winner on the day, beating Stefanie Weinstein 6-1, 7-5, and Anna Jeczmionka also earned a quick win over Jennifer Hombert, winning 6-3, 6-4. Armstrong then clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-3, win over Wiveca Swarting.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

With the match sealed, Dallara won a supertiebreaker at No. 2 singles over Madeleine Geibert 7-6 (5), 2-6, 10-6. Sarah Cantlay was the team\u2019s only loser in singles, falling 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Long Beach State has two more matches in this extended homestand, hosting Ohio State and Washington State at the Rhodes Tennis Center before hitting the road for the stretch run in Big West play.<\/o:p><\/p>\n
