Senior captain Trevor Kellogg was given the Opening Day start for the Jackrabbits, and gave up seven runs to Torrance, unable to make it out of the second inning. <\/span>With that bad taste brewing in his mouth he took the mound against North High in Torrance on Thursday, and scattered four hits and two walks over 5 1\/3 innings to get his first win (1-1), as Poly took it 6-2.<\/p>\n After surrendering two runs in the sixth inning, fellow senior right-hander Bryan Sanchez got out of a jam and recorded the last five outs of the game. Sophomore first baseman Jeff Turley crushed a solo homer to right in the first inning and the Jackrabbits never looked back. Turley added a double and two walks, while senior shortstop Eric Gonzalez doubled in two runs in the sixth inning. <\/span>Poly is now 2-2 for the season, and will host Downey High School for a doubleheader next Tuesday at Blair Field.
