After winning a CIF title on Saturday, Poly’s girls’ basketball team took Sunday off, and then got right back to work on Monday, preparing for the next step: State. <\/span>With tonight’s matchup against Washington Prep, the 16th seed out of 16 teams in the SoCal Regional bracket, they officially begin their state title defense. <\/span>And, as such, they’re in one-game-at-a-time mode, although the Generals shouldn’t pose too much of a problem (as their name, the Washington Generals, would suggest).<\/p>\n They have, like most teams at this level, two legitimate scorers, a hustle player, and a lot of role players. <\/span>The top priority is Reshanda Gray (#21), who’s averaging 19.3 points a game, and 15 points a game. <\/span>At 6-3, the junior is one of the few legit centers in the bracket, and Poly’s ability to handle her (and make the easy paint shots they’ve been missing lately) will go a long way towards determining the outcome. <\/span>5-10 wing\/guard Kiana Furlow (#10) is a shooter, and is averaging 16 points a game. <\/span>Behind her, it’s Cheyenne Bonham, who shoots threes as often as twos, and can be accurate in streaks. <\/span>She, like most of the team besides Gray, is not that big, and Poly’s length defensively should help bottle up the Generals. Should they advance, Poly will likely see Carson; a rematch with title game foe Santiago likely waits in the semifinals of the SoCal Regional.
