Millikan (1-0) <\/font><\/strong>showed their scrappy colors in the first game of the year, with an extra-innings 2-1 win over Los Al in the Loara Tournament.  The Griffins got on the board first, in the top of the third inning, but overall Josh Frye pitched like you’d expect Josh Frye to, scattering four hits over 5.1 innings of work, striking out five.  Adam Annella had a great game as well, closing the game out with two scoreless innings of pitching, and going 2-4 with a run and an RBI.  Millikan tied it up in the bottom of the fourth, and got the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth.  Paul Slater scored a run, and Jordan Ybarra was 1-3, with an RBI.<\/font><\/p>\n

Lakewood (1-0) <\/font><\/strong>got off on the right foot with a big 10-3 win over University High.  Tyler Schultz was driven in by Hunter Jones, who was then driven in by Jeff Yamaguchi to start the scoring in the first.  Tyler Leidholt and freshman phenom J.P. Crawford both scored in the second to open up a 4-0 lead.  Yamaguchi pitched 5 innings in the win, allowing just four hits while striking out five.  Schultz was 3-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs.<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Cabrillo (1-0) <\/font><\/strong>can feel pretty good about their opening day, as the bats came alive and the defense was there, in an 8-0 win over Port of Los Angeles.  Ramiro Rosalez, a senior pitcher, struck out thirteen and allowed just three hits.  Louis Venegas was 3-4 with three RBI, and 2 runs.<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Poly (0-1) <\/span><\/strong>struggled on opening day, falling 13-7 to Torrance High, on a day where they honored the 1985 Poly team that was the last to win a Moore League title.  The bright spot was freshman lefty pitcher Chris Castellanos, who threw four innings of scoreless relief with six strikeouts.  Trevor Kellogg picked up the loss, giving up three runs in the first inning.<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Jordan (0-1) <\/font><\/strong>didn’t get out of the gate the way they wanted, falling 12-2 to Yucaipa on the opening day of the El Segundo Tournament.  The Panthers were held hitless through four innings, and trailed 12-0 after five, before putting two up on the board in the sixth.  The game was called prior to the seventh inning due to darkness.<\/font><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

Wilson (0-1) <\/font><\/strong>fell on opening day, 4-2 to Santa Margarita.  They’re playing in the Loara Tournament as well. <\/font><\/o:p><\/p>\n
