It was a disappointing game for the Long Beach State women’s basketball team, to say the least.  <\/span>After spending just a few moments talking to her team, a frustrated Jody Wynn emerged from the locker room.  <\/span>When asked why the conversation was so brief (Long Beach State coaches aren’t exactly known for their brevity after losses), Wynn just said, “I think they know how I feel.”  <\/span>Her team started slow and never got any faster, committing 28 turnovers (and creating 28 Davis points) and shooting just 25% in the game, falling 70-46 to UC Davis.<\/p>\n

With the loss, the 49ers dropped to 12-15 overall and 8-6 in the Big West, while UCD improved to 18-8, 10-3 BWC. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

It seemed the first time this season Wynn was frustrated with the limits of the roster she inherited.  <\/span>“You have to have kids who can dribble, pass, and shoot to get past [Davis’ trapping defense].  <\/span>You have to have skilled players to be able to attack that defense.”<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Senior Karina Figueroa scored a team-high 11 points, while classmate Ally Wade chipped in 10. Senior Brett Timmons led the 49ers on the boards with a season-best nine rebounds. Sophomore Tipesa Moorer also finished with seven points and eight rebounds. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

UC Davis raced out to a 14-0 advantage before Figueroa got The Beach on the board with a layup at the 16:03 mark. The Aggies would go up by as many as 25 before the 49ers went on a modest 7-3 run over the final four minutes to go into the break trailing, 38-17. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

UCD shot 48.1 percent from the field and a blistering 66.7 percent (6-for-9) from beyond the arc, while it held Long Beach State to a 23.1 field goal percentage in the first half. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

The 49ers cut the deficit to 18 early in the second period after a pair of 3-pointers from Wade and Figueroa, but the Aggies rebuilt their lead to as many as 30 (59-29) with 7:15 to play. UC Davis cruised the rest of the way as it moved into first place in the Big West with the 70-46 victory. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

Lisa Peterson led a balanced Aggie attack with 13 points. Paige Mintun and Samantha Meggison both added nine points apiece. <\/o:p><\/p>\n

Long Beach State returns to the Walter Pyramid on Saturday, Feb. 27, when it takes on Pacific at 4 p.m. (PST). The 49ers will honor their six seniors following their final home game.<\/o:p><\/p>\n
