With all the attention we pay to girls’ volleyball in the Moore League (where, to be fair, the league has three of CIF’s top ten programs), it could be easy to overlook that there are still three Moore League teams alive in the CIF girls’ tennis bracket<\/a>, too.\u00a0 <\/span>In fact, it’s the same three schools who’ve been doing it in volleyball too, as Wilson, Lakewood, and Poly are all still alive in the second round of the bracket, and will play matches this Saturday, vying for the right to advance to the quarterfinals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wilson<\/o:p><\/strong><\/p>\n

Wilson was battling illness and injury in their first-round matchup against Hart, but the Bruins still gutted it out and got through.\u00a0 <\/span>Unfortunately, they won’t be as healthy as they’d like on Saturday, but they should be in better shape than they were on Thursday\u2014they’ll need to be a little healthier to knock off South Pasadena, who won their way into the bracket as a Wild Card and absolutely demolished Mojave River champion Serrano on Thursday, winning 15-3.\u00a0 <\/span>Wilson will have to go on the road, too\u2014we’ll let you know how they did Saturday evening.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Lakewood<\/strong><\/o:p><\/span><\/p>\n

The Lancers had a trip out to Mark Keppel in the first round, where they put up the league’s most convincing win, taking the match 10-8.\u00a0 <\/span>Now they get to play at home (at 1pm for anyone who’s interested) against a higher quality opponent in West Ranch.\u00a0 <\/span>West Ranch is the two-seed from the Foothill League (a quality tennis league), who enter the match thanks to a 12-6 win over Corona Santiago in the first round.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Poly<\/o:p><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Jackrabbits are the pleasant surprise in the second round, qualifying for the bracket as a wild card, winning convincingly there and then knocking off La Reina on Thursday.\u00a0 <\/span>Since they’ve been on the road, they get to come home for their second-round battle with San Luis Obispo, the Pac-7 champion, who beat up on San Gabriel 15-3 in the first round.\u00a0 <\/span>Poly is playing with house money already by qualifying for the second round, so they’ve got nothing to lose\u2014if you want to watch the match, it starts Saturday at 2pm.<\/o:p><\/p>\n
