It’s the biggest week of the season so far, with playoff-stakes football, CIF postseason matches in three sports, and the kickoff to Long Beach State basketball!\u00a0 <\/span>We’ll lace your boots up on the city’s biggest games.<\/p>\n TUESDAY<\/span><\/p>\n Tuesday officially starts the CIF playoffs for team sports, as Long Beach tennis, water polo, and volleyball teams get going.\u00a0 <\/span>Check the front page for game-by-game previews and bracket analysis, but the big highlights from today are Poly girls’ tennis hosting Corona Centennial<\/a>, Millikan boys’ water polo hosting Capistrano Valley<\/a>, and Lakewood girls’ volleyball hosting Thousand Oaks<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong>Phew\u2014that’s going to make for busy sportswriters.\u00a0 <\/span>We’re also doing our weekly <\/span>Beach Sports Radio show at noon<\/a><\/strong>, which you can listen to live at LongBeachState.com.\u00a0 <\/span>There’s also a <\/span>Century Club meeting Tuesday night at the Grand, at 6pm<\/a><\/strong>.<\/a> WEDNESDAY<\/span><\/p>\n This is the one day of the week to grab a breather!\u00a0 <\/span>We’ll be at the Beach Club at 2pm<\/a><\/strong> recording the <\/span>all-<\/a>football episode of SportsNight<\/a><\/span><\/strong> if you want to drop by.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n THURSDAY<\/span><\/p>\n Hoo boy.\u00a0 <\/span>As of Thursday, there are no more byes in the CIF brackets, so everyone is playing.\u00a0 <\/span>In girls’ tennis, top Moore League seed Wilson will host the winner of Hart and Righetti<\/strong>; in <\/span>water polo, top-seed Wilson welcomes the winner of ML King\/San Marino<\/strong> to the Belmont, and in <\/span>girls’ volleyball, top-seed Wilson will have a home match against the winner of Newbury Park and Edison<\/strong>.\u00a0 <\/span>Yikes, looks like the Fall season was a good time to be a fan of Wilson.<\/span><\/p>\n FRIDAY<\/span><\/p>\n Football<\/strong> time!\u00a0 <\/span>Two huge games as <\/span>Wilson hosts Lakewood<\/strong> for the Moore League title and the league’s top CIF seed, and <\/span>Poly visits Compton<\/strong> with a third-seed playoff spot on the line\u2014whoever wins, gets it.\u00a0 <\/span>Whoever loses, starts thinking about getting revenge next year.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>Millikan<\/strong> will take it easy knowing they’re the four-seed no matter what, and <\/span>Jordan Cabrillo<\/strong> will play for the right to end the season on a positive note.<\/span><\/p>\n SATURDAY<\/span><\/p>\n Yes, the CIF playoffs continue today\u2014we’ll likely have teams still alive in tennis, water polo and volleyball, but Saturday is for the 49ers.\u00a0 <\/span>Long Beach State’s homecoming is today<\/strong>, with all kinds of awesome pre-game festivities in the parking lot (our sponsor Legends will be there with a great setup)\u2026oh yeah, and the <\/span>men’s basketball team is starting their season against Alaska-Anchorage or something<\/strong>. 4pm, in the Pyramid\u2014<\/span>be there.
