Sunday was not a fun day for the Beach, as the Long Beach State men’s golf team sits in 12th out of 13 teams after day one of competition at The Prestige at PGA West.  <\/span>The ‘Niners carded a 20-over par 308 at the par-72, 7,300 yard Stadium Course.<\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

UCLA currently leads the field of 13 teams after scoring an eight-under 280 as the Bruins hold a two-stroke lead over second place Stanford (282) and five-strokes over third place Vanderbilt (285).<\/o:p><\/p>\n

LBSU was led by freshman Philip Chian with a two-over 74 as he finished the day tied for 31st.  Chian, playing in his first collegiate tournament, recorded two bogeys and two birdies for the round and one double bogey on the par-3, 214 yard No. 13 hole.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Senior Robbie Berton, making his first appearance as a 49er, finished second for LBSU as he tied for 51st with a four-over 76.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Freshman Raymond Ho and sophomore Kevin Roy tied for 69th as both players shot a seven-over 79.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Senior Steve Gibson finished the day tied for 79th with a 13-over 85.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Johan de Beer of TCU and Sihwa Kim of Stanford share the lead as both players recorded a four-under 68 and hold a one-shot lead over four players tied for third.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Second round action continues on Monday with a shot-gun start that begins at 12:30 p.m.  Live action can be followed on golfstat.com<\/o:p><\/p>\n
