Some of the happiest news we’ve reported in a while, Jessica Hardy, Wilson alum and Olympic hopeful, broke the world record in the 50m breaststroke when she time-trialed the 100m breast on the third day of competition at the 2009 U.S. Open National Championships. Hardy split a time of 29.95 to swim under the previous world record of 30.09.<\/p>\n

The record came just one day after her return from a one-year ban after testing positive for the banned substance clenbuterol.  <\/span>After it became obvious she’d ingested the substance unwittingly (the result of a tainted supplement provided by a sponsor), Hardy’s ban was shortened\u2014and she’s clearly come back with something to prove, judging from Thursday’s performance.  <\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Local fans who want to follow her progress should be aware that Hardy will also swim the 100 breast on Friday, and the 50m freestroke on Saturday.  <\/span>Live results can be viewed by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
