\"\"Greg Mellen at the PT<\/a> reported over the weekend that the ambitious Kroc Center we told you about last week<\/a>\u2014a multi-sport facility that would benefit all of Long Beach, but especially the 6th District\u2014has cleared another hurdle.  <\/span>The project’s Environmental Impact Report has been officially certified by the Planning Commission, and it’s been recommended for city approval.  <\/span>The only things standing between the plans and their completion are the City Council’s approval, and a whole lot of money.<\/p>\n

As Theo Douglas at the District<\/a> pointed out, how much money is up for debate.  <\/span>We were told when the project was announced that it was $17 million from starting construction\u2014the Salvation Army’s Glen Madsen says that number is $25 million.  <\/span>We’re unclear as to the cause of the discrepancy, or where Snoop Dogg’s $5 million in-kind donation falls into the matter, but we’ll certainly keep you posted as things progress.  <\/span>One thing is for sure: the project seems to have the support of the Planning Commission, and the city, and that can’t be a bad thing.<\/p>\n
