It was one of the most memorable endings in the history of college baseball\u2014and, unfortunately, the local boy was on the wrong side of history.  <\/span>Zach Wilson, who graduated from Wilson last year, is a freshman at ASU, and was called on to perform in the biggest game of the year, a win-or-go-home semifinal decision against Texas.  <\/span>Wilson pinched at DH, and came to the plate in the top of the ninth, with the score tied 2-2, two outs, and a runner on second.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

He then proceeded to rip a 1-0 triple down the right line, scoring teammate Jason Kipnis, and giving ASU the apparent win\u2014Wilson, who hadn’t hit an RBI since May 10, was fired up on third.  <\/span>He, and the rest of the country, thought he’d just won the game in dramatic fashion.  <\/span>I got no less than four texts about it.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

And then: the bottom of the ninth.<\/o:p><\/p>\n

Texas’ Cameron Rupp hit a center-field homer to tie the game.  <\/span>Shocking enough\u2014then, with two outs, Connor Rowe smacked the first pitch into the bleachers in left, shocking Wilson and ASU and giving college baseball fans something they’ll be talking about for years to come.  <\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n
