Athlete of the Week\u2013<\/strong>Jeff McNeil, Baseball: Jeff McNeil led the Dirtbags to a sweep of Wichita State, hitting .545 against the shockers and contributing four double plays during the week, slugging .727. against the Shockers.<\/p>\n

No. 2 Sand Volleyball (4-0)<\/strong>
Won vs. No. 4 Florida State 4-1
Won vs. No. 8 Florida International 3-2
Won vs. Loyola Marymount 5-0
Won at No. 3 USC 3-2
–Long Beach State opened the 2013 season with four wins, including crucial victories over Florida State and at USC.<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s Softball (18-12)<\/strong>
Defeated Buffalo 8-3
Lost to Buffalo 10-3<\/p>\n

at San Diego State Classic II<\/em>
Defeated UMASS, 9-1
Defeated Miami (OH) 4-2
Defeated Harvard 3-2
Lost to Fairfield, 2-0
Lost to San Jose State, 2-1
–The 49ers went 3-2 at the SDSU Classic II tournament, while splitting with Buffalo earlier in the week. Nalani St. Germain led the team with 12 hits, 6 RBI, 2 home runs and seven runs.<\/p>\n

Women’s Basketball (16-15, 9-9 Big West)<\/strong>
Lost to Cal State Fullerton, 54-48 (Big West Tournament \u2013 First Round)
–Sophomore Devin Hudson had 17 points and a Big West Tournament record 24 rebounds as she was named to the conference\u2019s all-tournament team.<\/p>\n

Women’s Tennis (11-3, 4-1 Big West)<\/strong>
Won vs. No. 71 Louisville, 5-2
–Freshman Ebba Unden clinched the victory for LBSU with her 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 win at the No. 1 singles spot. Unden is now 2-1 since moving into the top spot two weeks ago. The 49ers improved to a perfect 7-0 when playing at home.<\/p>\n

No. 9 Women’s Water Polo (17-3, 0-1)<\/strong>
Def. Bucknell 10-3
Lost No. 8 Hawai’i 12-7
–Chelsea Parks led the 49ers with six goals as Long Beach State split a pair of home games last week defeating Bucknell and dropping its conference opener to No. 8 Hawai’i.<\/p>\n

Baseball (9-11)<\/strong>
Lost at LMU 4-1
Won vs. Wichita State 4-1
Won vs. Wichita State 3-1
Won vs. Wichita State 5-4
–The Dirtbags swept an opponent at home for the second time this season with three wins over Wichita State.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s Basketball (19-13)<\/strong>
Lost to UC Irvine in Big West Semifinals (67-60)
Defeated Cal State Fullerton in Big West quarterfinals (75-66)
–The 49ers fell in the semis at the Big West Tournament and earned a big to the NIT. James Ennis led the team against CSUF, scoring 15, while Tony Freeland and Keala King led the team vs. UC Irvine with 15 apiece.<\/p>\n

Men’s Golf<\/strong>
at Don Puckett National Invitational Tournament<\/em>
–49ers finish in 11th place (16 teams) at 21-over 885.
–Freshman Kevin Lee tied for 29th at 2-over 218.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s Volleyball (16-6, 12-5 MPSF)<\/strong>
Lost to #5 UCLA, 3-2
Won vs. #15 George Mason, 3-2
Won vs. IPFW, 3-0
–With their two victories in the Active Ankle Tournament, the 49ers secured the most wins in a season since 2008 when they claimed a share of the MPSF regular-season title and advanced to the NCAA Championships.<\/p>\n

Track & Field<\/strong>
at Aztec Invitational, NTS<\/em>
— Senior Amanda Klinchuch established a personal-record and the seventh-best mark in school history as she cleared 12-00 in the pole vault<\/p>\n
