Baseball: Millikan Clinches League Title With Win Over Compton<\/p>\n
The Millikan Rams clinched their first league title in eight years with a 5-0 win on Compton’s field yesterday, during the Tarbabes’ senior day. <\/span>Millikan coach Scott Glasser was very pleased with the league title, though less so with his team’s performance. <\/span>“I was not real happy with the boys’ performance at the plate,” he said. <\/span>“But the pitching and defense was there—we’re lucky to get a win when we weren’t playing well.”<\/p>\n The Rams left the bases loaded three times, and got a solid complete-game pitching performance from Matt Clampitt, who threw just 73 pitches. <\/span>“He’s very focused on the mound,” said Glasser of Clampitt. <\/p>\n Millikan scored two runs in the second inning, as second basemen Brandon Dopplick got things going with an RBI hit towards second base. <\/span>The Rams scored one in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the final inning to take the league title. <\/span>Jonathan Singleton walked three times, once intentionally. <\/span>Pedro Vanegas started on the mound for the Tarbabes, and then Danny Guiterez came in to finish the game. “It was an error-free, well fought game,” said Compton coach Brian Reed. <\/span><\/p>\n Glasser said the Rams waited until they got back to campus to celebrate, but that his players sprayed each other with Martinelli’s to commemorate the rare treasured league title. <\/span>Millikan improves to a perfect 10-0 on the season, and Compton falls to 1-8.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
