With it being Spring Break (woo!) and all, there aren’t any league games going on in the Moore League this week—however, most teams are still keeping busy, so we’ll bring you periodic updates of how everyone’s doing.<\/p>\n
Wilson Baseball<\/b><\/p>\n
The Bruins are at the Anaheim Lions Tournament for the first part of this week, and they are on an absolute tear, having gotten Tommy Nance back and healthy. <\/span>They started on Saturday with a loss to Capo Valley, 8-5. <\/span>The Bruins went up with some consistent hitting, scoring five runs in the first three innings, but an 8-run bottom fifth led to the loss.<\/p>\n On Monday, the Bruins tussled with the Savanna Rebels and came away with a 6-3 victory. <\/span>The Bruins’ Chris Hubbard and Kyle Ritter combined on a three-hitter, as Wilson never trailed. Later that day, they topped Riverside Poly with a great complete game performance from senior pitcher J.T. Mazalewski, who went the distance in the shutout, as Wilson won 1-0. <\/span>Wilson scored in the bottom of the sixth when Sean Buckle scored off Lester Salcedo’s suicide squeeze.<\/p>\n Nance was back again on Tuesday, limiting Merced to just two runs on three hits in five innings of work—the Bruins’ bats were slower to get going, as they trailed 3-1 headed into the final inning. <\/span>Then Tyler Dennison hit a single, Phillip Visico hit a double, and Tanner Perkins was walked. <\/span>Lester Salcedo (whose suicide squeeze won the Bruins’ previous game) hit a deep left-center double to tie the game, before Cody Harris’ hit knocked in Perkins for the game-winner.<\/p>\n Wilson will play JSerra today, and South East high school on Saturday, before the kids head back to school. <\/span>Their next league contest is Friday, April 24th<\/sup> at Blair against Lakewood.<\/p>\n Lakewood Baseball<\/b><\/p>\n The Lancers are also in the Anaheim Lions Tournament, and are also going strong—Lancers faithful will be happy to note that Jonathan Worrell has returned to pitching action, and he looks solid.<\/p>\n The tourney started out rough for Lakewood on Saturday, with a 2-1 loss to Reno—Jeff Yamaguchi gave up five hits in five innings and K’d 6 Huskies, but Lakewood just couldn’t get enough offense going. <\/span>Earlier in the day they suffered through a 2-2 tie to Loara, after Lancers pitcher Cole Phillips gave up both Saxons runs in the first. <\/span>Lakewood scored in the third off an Alex Padilla RBI single, and again in the top of the seventh after Yamaguchi was scored by Tyler Schultz. <\/span>Lakewood’s Josh Schoenberger pitched the eighth and struck out two of three Saxons to close the game.<\/p>\n The weekday matches have been kinder, with a 5-1 win over Ramona, as Danny Ittner struck out 8 rams in the first four innings. <\/span>Lakewood scored their first two runs off Ramona mistakes in the second, and another three runs off RBI hits by Matt Duffy and David Peters.<\/p>\n The big news was the Tuesday performance of Jonathan Worrell, who went the distance giving up just five hits and one run as Lakewood topped the O.
