I’ve been lucky to be here that long.”

Anderson recently closed his 18th season as head coach. He led the Vikings to a 15-15 overall record and a second-place South Coast Conference South Division finish at 7-3. LBCC qualified for the postseason for the fifth straight time.

Anderson wraps up his LBCC head coaching career with a 378-212 overall record (.641 winning percentage). He first joined the LBCC coaching staff in 1975 as an assistant coach under Bill Fraser.

During his tenure, Anderson guided seven of his teams to South Coast Conference championships and took 15 of his 18 teams to the playoffs. His 1994 team compiled a 32-6 record and won the school’s sixth state title and first since Bill Frasier’s team claimed the state’s top honor in 1976.

By winning the state title, Anderson became the first person in California history to win state championships as a player, an assistant, and head coach at the same institution. Anderson was a member of the 1970-71 championship team that finished 27-5 under former University of Arizona head coach Lute Olson. Anderson was named All-Metropolitan Conference and all-state that year. He was also an assistant coach under Fraser in 1976 when the Vikings won their fifth state title.

Anderson earned his 300th career win at LBCC following an 80-64 triumph on January 21, 2005 at rival Cerritos College. Anderson surpassed Fraser this season as LBCC’s all-time winningest coach on February 4, 2009 with his 375th win at East Los Angeles College.

From LBCC reports

After becoming the winningest coach in school history last season, Gary Anderson is hanging up the clipboard.

[3
["post-4344","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sports","entry
["GET
