From LBSU reports<\/span><\/p>\n Senior Brent Gray successfully defended his 200-meter title to lead the Long Beach State track and field team on the first day of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championships Friday afternoon at Dempsey Indoor on the University of Washington campus.<\/p>\n Despite nursing a tweaked hamstring, Gray still went on to win the 200m in a time of 21.28, making him a three-time champion in the event as he has finished ahead of the pack in each of the last two years. Gray also advanced to the 60-meter finals, which will be held tomorrow, with a mark of 6.82. Senior Austin Fowler, meanwhile, just missed out on qualifying after crossing the finish line in a personal-best 6.88 seconds.<\/p>\n Junior Kenneth Medwood had a strong showing in the long jump, notching the fourth-longest indoor mark in school history at 23-06.75.<\/p>\n The quartet of Carly Harris, Ejiro Okoro, Missy Barclay and Sarah Apgar established a school record in the women’s distance medley relay, finishing in 11 minutes, 52.79 seconds. The 49ers placed sixth overall, defeating Arizona State which is ranked eighth in the nation.<\/p>\n The men’s DMR team ended up just about a second off of the school record as Matt Maldonado, Medwood, Alex Freitas and Raul Arcos clocked in at 9:52.53, topping No. 1-ranked Oregon, which boasts one of the premier distance programs in the country.<\/p>\n On the women’s side, senior Katie Black finished seventh overall in the pentathlon with 3,359 total points. Senior Kristina Wilson was also one of the top performers for The Beach, running the second-fastest 5000-meter time in 49er history at 17:22.63.<\/p>\n Long Beach State wraps up action at the MPSF Indoor Championships on Saturday, Feb. 28. The first event gets underway at 11am.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
