At the same time as Lakewood’s loss to Wilson was happening, a loss which guarantees both Cabrillo and Jordan a playoff spot, the Jags and Panthers played a fantastic, dramatic contest on the only field in the Moore League equipped to deal with bad weather. It rained all morning, but the Cabrillo pitch was up to the task, with just a few muddy spots on an otherwise very playable field.<\/p>\n

The Jags went up early, scoring in the 16th minute when Luis Godinez sent a ball into the box for Fernando Jamie, who put it home. In the second half, Miguel Hernandez made it 2-nil–then the Panthers rattled off three straight, the first on a long shot, the second when Cabrillo failed to clear a ball in the box, and the third on a long free kick which skipped along the wet field into the net, with just five minutes left.<\/p>\n

The Panthers had the 3-2 lead, but in the 80th minute, Hernandez blasted a shot which squirted through the Jordan keeper’s hands; Gabriel Borja headed it home, tying the game 3-3, which is how it finished. <\/p>\n

“That was one of the best games I’ve ever coached at Cabrillo,” said Jags’ coach Pat Noyes after the game. “Just a ton of fun, well fought on both sides.”<\/p>\n
