Try as you might, you can’t keep the man away from a triangle—former Long Beach State coach and famed innovator of the triangle offense Tex Winter will be in the Pyramid to be honored by the university before and during the men’s basketball game against Cal State Fullerton next Thursday, January 29th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Before the game, all former men’s basketball players are invited to attend a social beginning at 5:00 p.m. in the Ukleja Family Hall of Honor.  Winter and his former players will be honored during the game.  <\/p>\n

Winter spent five seasons as the 49ers’ head coach compiling a 78-69 record.  He began his Long Beach State career during the 1978-79 season when he led his team to a 16-12 record.  The next season Winter led The Beach to a 22-12 record and a spot in the postseason NIT.  <\/p>\n

During his time in the NBA, Winter served as head coach for the Houston Rockets in the early 70s and won nine NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers as an assistant coach.  He might be best known as the innovator of the triangle offense.<\/p>\n
