Matt Kresky’s power play goal with 1:14 remaining in the third period gave the Long Beach 49ers the 3-2 edge over the Texas A&M Aggies. Ricky St. Louis played brilliantly in net for the Beach, which earned its first home win of the season.<\/p>\n

In the first period, Kevin Brown struck first for the Beach with a power goal off a Sean Hoang rebound. The 1-0 lead carried through to the second period until the Aggies tied the score two minutes in. With 15:49 in the second, Adam Lamarche’s power play goal put the 49ers up 2-1 until the Aggies tied the score again 10 minutes later.<\/p>\n
As the game wound down, overtime seemed eminent until the Aggies handed the 49ers their ninth power play opportunity. From the right point, Jason Elliot sent a perfect pass to Kresky which Kresky deflected in for the game winner.<\/p>\n
The 49ers nearly gave the game away at the end, giving the Aggies a two-man advantage with 44 seconds to play. The Aggies pulled their goaltender but the Beach fended off the 6-on-3 attack to hang on for the victory. Next up for the Beach: Metro State Univ. Jan 17 @ 9pm at Glacial Gardens.<\/p>\n
