{"id":5139,"date":"2008-12-16T07:35:00","date_gmt":"2008-12-16T07:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/lbpost.com\/articles\/sports\/moore-league-girls-basketball-update\/"},"modified":"2008-12-16T07:35:00","modified_gmt":"2008-12-16T07:35:00","slug":"moore-league-girls-basketball-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lbpost.com\/sports\/moore-league-girls-basketball-update","title":{"rendered":"Moore League Girls&#8217; Basketball Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div style='float:left;padding-right:10px;padding-bottom:5px;'><img src='images\/archive\/sports\/photo6255969.jpg' align='left' \/><\/div>\n<p> <!--StartFragment-->     <\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-family: 'Trebuchet MS'; font-size: 12px; \">As  promised in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/lbpostsports.com\/newsdesk.php?story=1683\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">last week&#8217;s boys&#8217; update<\/a>, this is a quick rundown of how all the  girls&#8217; teams in the league are doing as they progress through their nonleague  schedules.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>This is going to be an  interesting season, because besides Poly, there aren&#8217;t really any clear-cut  favorites, so at this point it&#8217;s anyone&#8217;s guess who will get the remaining  three playoff spots.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s  happened so far.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><i>Stats  provided by MaxPreps<\/i><\/span><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><b>Cabrillo<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\">Cabrillo  is winless thus far, and struggling to get their footing under head coach Karen  Candelaria.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>In their last defeat,  yesterday against Keppel, they lost 66-22, and only mustered 9 points in the  second half.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><b>Compton  <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\">Compton  is also winless at 0-2, having lost those games by a combined 111-49.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>They fell to La Serna (of Whittier) and  Godinez, with both games part of the Fullerton Tournament held earlier this  month.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><b>Jordan<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\">The  Panthers aren&#8217;t struggling quite as much, with a 3-3 record and a high-powered  offense.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>However, they have lost  their last two games.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>That offense  hung 70 points on the Manual Arts Toilers in a victory in the first round of  the Inglewood Holiday Tip-Off Classic.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp;  <\/span>They&#8217;re led by Montanique Washington and Danesha Long, who are averaging  13 and 14 points per-game, respectively, while Amber Washington and Artavia  Gillard hold the team down in the middle, grabbing 15 rebounds a game between  them.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>They&#8217;ll be taking part in  the Magnolia Christmas Classic tournament starting tonight.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><b>Lakewood<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\">Sitting  at 2-4, the Lancers are part of that middle pack that could break in either  direction this season. We&#8217;ll get a good look at what kind of team they&#8217;ll be  starting the day after Christmas, when they participate in a thick field at the  Gahr Holiday Classic.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>The standout  for Lakewood is sophomore guard Jasmine Balangue&mdash;the young guard is averaging  nearly 10 points per-game, along with five assists, four rebounds, 2.5 steals,  and a block.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>If she keeps filling  the stat line, the Lancers could be a fun team to watch.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><b>Millikan<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\">Led  by veteran coach Lorene Morgan, the Rams are looking for an identity after  graduating their top-flight talents (particularly Courtney Clements) in  2008.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>They&#8217;re sitting at 3-3 right  now after a trip through the tough Redondo Tournament.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>Jaslyn Cosey, a senior, leads the team  in scoring with 14 points per-game, while shooting over 80% from the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\"><b>Poly<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:9.0pt;font-family:\" trebuchet=\"\" ms??=\"\">At  8-0, and having played some of the nation&#8217;s best teams, the Jackrabbits look  like they haven&#8217;t lost a step, and should look to compete for a fourth-straight  state championship this season.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>They&#8217;re now 2-4 and part  of the middle pack that could make things interesting.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes\">&nbsp; <\/span>They&#8217;ll have some more tournament games  before league play starts January 7<sup>th<\/sup>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun:  yes\">&nbsp;
