For the 37th<\/sup> year, the Ocean View Tournament of Champions is hosting some of the region’s top talent—three Moore League teams have been there this week, duking it out with powerhouses like Westchester and Compton-Centennial.  <\/span>Poly, Jordan, and Lakewood have now all fallen to the consolation bracket, where they’ll be playing three great games on Friday night—here’s who they’ll be playing, and how they got there.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poly<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Jackrabbits were part of probably the tournament’s best game, a 63-61 overtime victory over Penninsula on opening day, led by Alex Carmon’s 15 points.  <\/span>Shelton Boykins, who has played well for the ‘Rabbits this season, scored just six, but had six rebounds (to lead the team), a steal, and a block as well.  <\/span>It’s worth noting that Poly is playing without last season’s top scorer, Julian Camper, since the 6’5″ 265-pound senior is the starting tight end for Poly’s football team, which is still playing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poly didn’t come out on top in their second game last night—the ‘Rabbits lost to host school Ocean View 70-63.  <\/span>In the losing effort, Boykin had 17 points and Carmon another 13.<\/span><\/p>\n

Poly now plays Clovis West on Friday at 5:40pm, in a consolation game at Ocean View High School<\/i><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jordan<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The mighty Panthers of Jordan, like Poly, won a tight overtime contest on opening night, defeating Harvard-Westlake 70-66.  <\/span>The win gave them the opportunity to face Westchester on night two, which you can read all about in this writeup<\/a> by Ryan ZumMallen, as the Panthers fell 69-49.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jordan will now play Garces on Friday at 8:30pm, in a consolation game at Lakewood High School.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n

Lakewood<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

The Lakewood Lancers haven’t managed to get in the win column at the Tournament of Champions, but they couldn’t have come much closer than they did in their first game, against Garces.  <\/span>The Lancers led for the first three quarters, thanks to 15 points from Jared Garber and 10 from Zachary Pulig, but Garces caught them in the fourth, and would win on a tip-in with one second left on the clock.  <\/span>Garber had 12 rebounds to lead the team, and Jordan Hughey had three steals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Game two they didn’t fare much better.  <\/span>Again led by Garber (who finished with ten), Lakewood trailed for the first three quarters, and went into the fourth down 35-28.  <\/span>They came roaring back in the final period, but fell 48-45.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lakewood will play the loser of tonight’s Compton-Centennial\/West Valley match on Friday at 4:20pm, in a consolation game they’ll be hosting at Lakewood.<\/i><\/span><\/p>\n
