Led by senior Sarah Apgar, who’s ending a stellar career at the Beach, LBSU finished their season strong on Saturday at the NCAA West Regional, as the women’s squad finished in 11th<\/sup> with 332 points and the men took 15th<\/sup> with 424.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apgar was out in front for the 49ers, crossing the finish line in 31st<\/sup> with a time of 20:56, eclipsing her previous regional finish by 18 seconds.   <\/span>Coming in close behind was senior Carly Harris as she broke her previous regional mark by a minute as she finished in 35th with a time of 21:03.55.<\/span><\/p>\n

Junior Missy Barclay and senior Kristina Wilson crossed the finish line in 68th and 74th respectively with times of 21.40.26 and 21:48.70. Wilson finished 15 seconds better from last year’s regional as she came in 82nd.  <\/span>Running in their first NCAA Regional meet, freshmen Jessica Barnard and Alisia Barajas finished 129th and 178th respectively with times of 22.37.79 and 23:39.87.<\/span><\/p>\n

Washington claimed the women’s team title with 25 points, followed by Oregon in second place with 62 points and tournament host Stanford coming in third with 91 points. Alex Kosinski of Oregon won the individual title with a time of 19:59.01, followed by fellow Duck teammate Nicole Blood with a mark of 20:01.23.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the men’s side, sophomore Travis Kuhlman was the top runner for the 49ers as he finished in 60th place with a time of 30:56.92. Kuhlman broke his previous NCAA finish by 47 seconds as he finished in 61st at last year’s west regional in Eugene.  <\/span>Also, improving from last year’s regional results, were sophomores Josh Ruff and Steve DeCastro as both runners finished in 83rd and 102nd respectively. Ruff finished in 113th (33.02.40), while DeCastro came in 142nd (33:56.90) in Eugene.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oregon won the team title with 38 points, followed by tournament host Stanford with 72 points and third place Portland with 85. Galen Rupp claimed the individual title with a time of 27:41.24, with fellow teammate Shadrack Kiptoo-Biwott coming in second with a mark of 28:32.31.<\/span><\/p>\n
