Long Beach State’s women’s basketball team is reporting that they’ve signed two local players, both guards, to Letters of Intent. Both are local high school seniors who will join the team next season.<\/span><\/p>\n The first, Jazmyne Porter, is currently playing for the Wilson Bruins. <\/span>A 5-7 guard, she averaged 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals a game last season. The team captain is a two-time all-Moore League Selection and participated in the Top 10 All-American Camp West this past summer.<\/span><\/p>\n “Jazmyne is a fast and talented one- or two-guard that uses her speed effectively,” said Hegarty. “She is a scrappy defender, especially on the ball and she will add much needed athleticism and speed to our guard position.”<\/span><\/p>\n The other player, Lyndsay Heard, is also local, a 5-10 guard for Mater Dei who can play multiple positions. <\/span>She’s the Monarchs’ team captain, and averages 10 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. In 2007-08, she helped lead the Monarchs to a 25-4 overall record and a share of the Trinity League championship. Mater Dei also advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs. In addition, Heard was a starter for Cal Swish, one of the top club teams in California.<\/span><\/p>\n “Lyndsay has grown up around our program, so it has been wonderful to see her develop into an outstanding student-athlete,” Hegarty said. “She is a versatile guard that can play anywhere on the perimeter, from the point to the small forward in our offense.
