On Saturday I covered the LBSU women’s volleyball match against Pacific, and came away stunned at the development of Quincy Verdin, who seems to have really turned it on over the last four matches. <\/span>Apparently, the Big West was paying attention too, as they’ve selected the senior Big West Player of the Week. <\/span>Despite finishing second in kills for LBSU for the last four years, she’s never won the award before.<\/span><\/p>\n A senior out of Morgan City, La., Verdin led the 49ers to a trio of home wins last week. Starting the week with a non-conference matchup against Notre Dame, Verdin made a career-high 21 kills while hitting .545 to lead the 49ers. Three nights later, Verdin hit .500 again, this time against UC Davis while leading the team with 13 kills in a 3-0 win, adding five digs and three blocks. Verdin closed out the week with another team-leading 12 kills against Pacific, hitting .348 with three blocks.<\/span><\/p>\n On the week, Verdin hit .474 overall with 10 blocks, hitting 46 kills and moving much closer to becoming the 14th 49er to hit 1,000 kills in her career. <\/span>Verdin becomes the second 49er in the last three weeks to earn conference honors.
