The 49ers’ defense has been stellar all season, allowing a grand total of 11 goals in 16 matches. <\/span>But lately, the offense has struggled to put the ball in the net, particularly with an injury hobbling key forward Sahar Haghdan lately. <\/span>But they got off the matt over the weekend and cruised to a 4-1 victory over UC Riverside, with help from Kim Silos, who had a goal and an assist as well as the Highlanders, who had an own goal. <\/span>Long Beach State improves to 9-4-3, 3-0-1 and UC Riverside is now 5-9-2, 0-4-1 on the season.<\/span><\/p>\n Silos started off the scoring in the 37th minute on a 25-yard shot from the left side. In the very next minute, the 49ers got additional help as the Highlanders put the ball in their own net, giving Long Beach State a 2-0 lead.<\/span><\/p>\n LBSU closed out the first half with their third score of the contest as Silos crossed the ball to the middle and Sarah Strohl headed it in at 43:11. It was Strohl’s second goal of the season and Silos’ fourth assist of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n Yeraldy Hurtado also got her second goal of the season in the 81st minute on a Caroline Shevlin assist.<\/span><\/p>\n The 49er defense had a solid performance allowing only one goal in the 83rd minute of the game. UC Riverside’s Tessa Lennala had a free kick that she put into the upper right side of the net.<\/span><\/p>\n Goalkeepers Liz Ramos and Breanna Truelove split time in the net. Ramos finished the night with two saves. In a big offensive night, the 49ers took a total of 21 shots against the Highlanders.
